  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 2 Tbsp. allspice
  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. cloves
  • 2 Tbsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. sour cream or buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 c. blackberry jam
  • 3 c. flour

    Cream butter and sugar gradually until light and fluffy.

    Add unbeaten egg yolks, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.

    Add allspice, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

    Mix thoroughly.

    Add sour cream or buttermilk into which soda has been added.

    Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes in layer pans.
