Braided Orange Bread

Ingredients

  • 5 to 5 1/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. orange juice
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange rind

    Combine 1 cup of flour and undissolved yeast in large mixing bowl.

    Scald milk in saucepan.

    Add margarine, sugar and salt. Cool to very warm (120° to 130°).

    Add milk mixture to flour-yeast mixture.

    Beat until smooth.

    Add eggs and 1 cup flour, orange juice and rind.

    Beat until mixed well.

    Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
