- 2 c. bran flakes
- 1 c. shortening
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 5 c. flour
- 1 qt. buttermilk
- 2 c. boiling water
- 4 c. all-bran
- 3 c. sugar
- 5 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- date/raisins (optional)
Directions

1Pour water over bran and all-bran flakes and soak.

2Cream shortening and sugar.

3Add 4 eggs, soda, flour and salt. Alternately add 1 quart buttermilk and dry ingredients.

4Add dates or raisins if desired.

5Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
