- 4 slices bread
- 2 apples
- 1/4 c. water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 c. milk
- 3 egg whites
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Remove crusts from bread and cut in quarters.

2Peel and slice apples.

3Combine apples with the water and let simmer on low heat until barely tender.

4Add 1/2 cup sugar.

5Stir gently (don't break apples).

6Place bread in buttered casserole dish packing closely together.

7Cover bread with the apples and juice.

8Beat egg yolks until light.
-
9Add milk and vanilla.
-
10Mix well and pour over pudding.

11Dot with bits of butter.

12Bake 20 minutes.

13Beat egg whites until stiff.

14Add sugar.
-
15Spread over pudding and brown in oven.
