Bread Custard Pudding

  • 2 c. crumbled bread
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 2/3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 3 c. scalded milk, just brought to boil

Directions

    Combine the crumbs and milk; bring to boiling point.

    Add the butter and stir into the egg and sugar, beaten light, in the pudding dish.

    Add vanilla; surround the dish with hot water in a cake tin.

    Bake at 350° until a knife when inserted will come out clean, about 45 minutes.

    If desired, add a cup of grated apple to the mixture.
