- 1 1/2 lb. French bread, crust trimmed
- 2 qt. (8 c.) milk
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 4 eggs
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375°.

2Grease 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Melt butter over low heat.

3Crumble bread into a big bowl.

4Add milk and mix thoroughly.

5Add sugar, salt and vanilla and mix. Beat eggs lightly; add and mix.

6Add melted butter; mix and pour into baking dish.

7Bake 1 1/2 hours on middle rack in oven.

8Place pan underneath to catch drippings, then cool on wire rack.
