Breakfast Cinnamon Pinwheels

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1/3 c. shortening
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • chopped nuts (optional)

Directions

    Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together.

    Cut in shortening.

    Add enough milk to make a soft dough.

    Turn out on a lightly floured board.

    Knead together 1/2 minute.

    Roll oblong to 1/4-inch thick.

    Spread with soft margarine.

    Stir cinnamon, sugar and nuts together.

    Sprinkle over dough.

    Roll up tightly like a jelly roll.

    Cut in 3/4-inch slices.

    Arrange cut side down on greased baking sheet.

    Bake at 450° for 12 to 15 minutes. (While still hot, frost with thin powdered sugar icing.)
