  • 1 c. butter or 1/2 c. butter and 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 1 sq. chocolate, melted
  • 1 c. buttermilk with 1 tsp. soda dissolved
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs

    Cream butter and sugar well.

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating until thoroughly mixed.

    Add flour alternately with buttermilk. Add melted chocolate with warm water and vanilla.

    Bake in layers at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.
