Brown Sugar Pound Cake

- 1 1/2 c. butter, softened
- 1 (16 oz.) box light brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 5 eggs, separated
- 3 c. sifted cake flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. milk, at room temperature
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 325°.

2Cream butter and sugars.

3Add egg yolks one at a time.

4Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add alternately with milk.

5Beat 2 minutes.

6Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry.

7Fold whites into cake mixture with vanilla and nuts.

8Pour into greased and floured 10 cup tube pan and bake 1 1/2 hours or until cake pulls away from edges of pan and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

9Cool 25 minutes in pan, then turn out onto rack.
