Brunch Casserole

Ingredients

  • 10 slices bread
  • 1 c. shredded sharp cheese
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. brown sugar
  • paprika to taste
  • 1 small whole onion, chopped fine
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 c. cooked bacon, ham or cooked loose pork sausage

    Twenty-four hours before serving, remove crust from bread; cube bread (older bread is better).

    In a mixing bowl, mix all other ingredients.

    In a buttered casserole dish (9 x 13-inch), layer bread, meat and cheese.

    Pour egg mixture over.

    Refrigerate overnight.

    Remove from refrigerator.

    Bring to room temperature. Bake 1 hour at 325°.

    Test for completion.
