Burger Stuffed Onions

Ingredients

  • 6 large onions
  • 2 Tbsp. Wesson oil
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped green peppers
  • 2 Tbsp. dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. chili pepper
  • 1/2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/8 Tbsp. black pepper
  • 3 slices American cheese
  • 1 (8 oz.) tomato sauce

    Peel onions, cook in boiling salted water 30 minutes or until tender yet firm.

    Drain and cool.

    Slice off top third of each onion.

    Cut out centers to make cups.
  5. 5
    Chop 1/2 cup of the centers and saute in Wesson oil with beef and green peppers for 5 minutes. (Save remaining onions for use in other dishes.)
