Buttercream Icing

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. solid vegetable shortening
  • 1/3 c. margarine or butter
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 c. sifted confectioners sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. milk

Directions

    In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and shortening with electric mixer.

    Add vanilla.

    Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed.

    Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often.

    When all sugar is mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at high speed until light and fluffy.

    Keep icing covered with a damp cloth until ready to decorate.

    Keep icing in refrigerator when not in use.
