  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. butter or Crisco
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 Tbsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. boiling water

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs one at a time and beat. Sift flour, cocoa and soda together.

    Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning with flour.

    Mix well, then add boiling water.

    Bake in 350° oven for about 30 minutes or test with a toothpick for doneness.
