- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. lemon extract (orange works too)
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1In mixer bowl, cream together sugar, shortening and butter until light and fluffy.

2Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

3Stir in vanilla and lemon extract. Thoroughly stir together flour and baking soda.

4Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition.
