  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. shortening, melted
  • 4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 2 c. buttermilk

    Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl and let stand 5 minutes.

    Melt shortening in microwave and mix with buttermilk. Add to yeast mixture.
