- 1/2 c. butter or Crisco
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- a little salt
- 1/2 c. nut meats, broken in pieces
Directions

1Work butter or Crisco until creamy.

2Add brown sugar and, when well blended, add egg.

3Mix well and add vanilla.

4Sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and a little salt; add to first mixture.

5Mix well and add nut meats.

6Pack in a small bread pan, or form into a roll and chill in refrigerator.

7Cut off as needed and bake 8 minutes in a hot (400°) oven.
