Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 c. raw rice
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. ground meat
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can tomato paste plus water to make 2 c.
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 bay leaf, crushed
  • bread crumbs
  • butter

Directions

    Chop cabbage and parboil 10 minutes in salty water.

    Place in colander and drain well.

    Brown ground meat.

    Add onion, celery and bell pepper.

    Cook until done.

    Add soup, tomato paste and water.

    Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

    Grease a large casserole pan using butter.

    Put a layer of cabbage, then a layer of meat mixture.

    Continue until all is used.

    Top with bread crumbs and dot with butter.

    Bake, covered, at 325° for 1 hour. Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer.
