- 1 large head cabbage
- 1 lb. bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 (16 oz.) loaf white bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 lb. American cheese slices or enough to cover a 9 x 13-inch pan twice
- pepper to taste
Directions

1Cut cabbage into pieces; boil until tender and drain.

2Fry bacon in large skillet until crisp; drain and set aside.

3Pour bacon grease into container (keep).

4Wipe pan with cloth or paper towel.

5Pour 2 or 3 tablespoons grease back into pan and add 1/3 of bread crumbs.

6Turn crumbs until toasted; repeat with the rest of crumbs.
