Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. bacon
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 c. chopped onions
  • 1 large can pork and beans
  • 1 large can red kidney beans
  • 1 large can lima beans
  • 2 tsp. vinegar
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 can chickpeas (optional)
  • 1 can cannellini beans (optional)

Directions

    Fry bacon until crisp; drain on paper towels and break into 1 1/2-inch pieces.

    Pour off fat from pan, leaving a small amount to brown beef and onions.

    Pour off excess drippings from beef/onion mixture.

    Combine all other ingredients in a large pan or casserole that may be covered; add meat and blend through bean mixture.

    Add bacon and fold gently.

    Bake, covered, at 350° for 40 minutes or until bubbly.

    Serve with a green salad and delicious loaf of bread.
