Candied Walnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. sour cream
  • pinch of salt (optional)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 c. walnut halves

Directions

    Combine brown sugar, granulated sugar and sour cream in small saucepan.

    Cook over medium heat.

    Stir until it boils.

    Continue to boil until mixture is soft ball stage (240°; soft ball, dropped into cold water, is formed).

    Stir in salt and vanilla.

    Pour hot candy mixture over walnuts in a mixing bowl.

    Mix until walnuts are evenly coated.

    Spoon onto waxed paper.

    Separate walnuts. Cool and when dry, store in airtight container.

    Makes about 3 cups.
