Caramel Bars

- 32 large candy caramels
- 5 Tbsp. cream or evaporated milk
- 1 c. flour
- 1 c. quick cooking oatmeal
- 3/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. butter
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- 1/2 c. chopped pecans
Directions

1Melt caramels in cream in top of double boiler.

2Cool slightly. Make crumb mixture of flour, butter, oatmeal, salt, soda and brown sugar.

3Press 1/2 of crumb mixture in bottom of 11 x 7 baking pan. Bake in 350° oven for 10 minutes.

4Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over baked crumb mixture.

5Carefully spread caramel mixture over chips and nuts.

6Sprinkle with rest of crumb mixture and press down.

7Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.

8Chill and cut in bars.

9Makes 24 bars.
