- 3 cups sugar
- 1 can (5 1/2 oz.) evaporated milk
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- Pinch salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- 1 can pineapple, drained
Directions

1Melt 1 cup of sugar in iron skillet or heavy saucepan until caramelized.

2Mix remaining 2 cups sugar with milk, butter and salt and cook slowly.

3When it begins to boil, add the caramelized sugar and stir well.

4Let come to a good boil.

5Cook slowly to soft ball stage.

6Remove from heat.

7Beat and add nuts.

8Spread pineapple on cake while hot.

9This icing can be used on any of your favorite cake recipes.
