- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 stick butter
- 3/4 c. evaporated milk
Directions

1Melt 1/2 cup sugar in iron skillet, stirring constantly.

2Beat egg slightly.

3To egg, add balance of sugar, butter and milk. Cook slowly until reaches boiling point.

4Add browned sugar while mixture reaches soft ball stage.

5Remove from heat; let cool and beat until right consistency to spread.

6Makes enough for filling and icing for two layer cake.
