Caramel Layer Chocolate Bars

- 14 oz. pkg. caramels
- 1 German chocolate cake mix
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
- 1/3 c. evaporated milk
- 3/4 c. butter, melted
- 1 c. chocolate chips
Directions

1Melt caramels in 1/3 cup evaporated milk in saucepan on stove. Set aside.

2Combine dry cake mix, butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts.

3Mix by hand.

4Press half the mixture into a 9 x 13-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

5Spread caramel mixture over the chips.

6Crumble the remaining cake mixture on top. Bake at 350° for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool.
