  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

    In large heavy skillet, heat sugar over very low heat.

    Stir constantly until melted and light golden brown.

    Remove from heat. Gradually stir in 1 cup hot water; bring to boiling point. Reduce heat and simmer until mixture thickens slightly or reaches 228° on candy thermometer.

    Remove from heat.

    Add butter, salt and vanilla.

    Let cool.

    Serve as a dressing over dessert.
