Ingredients
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 stick margarine
- 1 pt. 1/2 and 1/2 whipping cream
- 3/4 c. Karo syrup
- chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate
Directions

1Put 1 cup 1/2 and 1/2 milk in with all other ingredients.

2Use a large pan (I use Dutch oven).

3Bring to boil, stirring constantly.

4Add rest of 1/2 and 1/2.*

5Cook to soft ball stage on candy thermometer.**

6Stir constantly.

7Pour into greased 8-inch square pan.

8(Sprinkle pan with chopped nuts first, if you want nuts.) Use metal spatula to pry candy out of pan after it has cooled.

9Cut candy into small squares and individually wrap in pieces of wax paper.

10Makes approximately 100 caramels.
