- 2 c. sugar
- 2 c. light corn syrup
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. unsalted butter
- 2 c. Pet evaporated milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
Directions

1In a 3-quart heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and salt.

2Cook over medium-high heat until mixture reaches firm ball stage (244°), stirring occasionally.

3Add butter and gradually add milk so mixture does not stop boiling.

4Stirring constantly, cook rapidly to firm ball stage again.

5Remove from heat, add vanilla flavoring and pour mixture into buttered 9-inch square baking dish without scraping the sides of the saucepan.

6Cool thoroughly before cutting.

7Makes 81 caramels (1 x 1-inch).
