- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 egg
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. molasses
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. hot water
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar together.

2Add eggs and molasses. Sift dry ingredients together and mix.

3Add hot water last and beat until smooth.

4Bake in shallow pan for 45 minutes at 350°. Serve with thin sugar frosting.
