- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. maraschino cherries, chopped and drained
Directions

1Beat all ingredients except maraschino cherries in large bowl on low speed 15 seconds.

2Beat on medium speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly.

3Stir in maraschino cherries.

4Pour into greased pan and bake at 350° for 70 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

5Immediately loosen sides of loaf from pan and remove it onto a wire rack.

6Cool completely before slicing.

7Can wrap and freeze bread up to 3 months.
