  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. flour, sifted
  • 1 c. stoned cherries, cut into pieces
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped

    Cream the sugar and shortening.

    Add eggs and sour milk.

    Sift all dry ingredients together; beat in part of dry ingredients before adding cherries and nuts.

    Makes 2 layers.

    Bake for 40 to 50 minutes at 350°.

    Use cherry juice for frosting instead of milk.
