- 1 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sugar
- 4 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. pitted cherries, drained (reserve juice)
- 1 c. hot cherry juice (add water if necessary)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375°.

2Grease an 8-inch square pan.

3Sift flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, salt and baking powder together.

4Add shortening, milk and vanilla and mix well.

5Pour into pan and cover with cherries.

6Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of sugar over top.

7Pour hot cherry juice over top and bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

8Serve warm.
