Chile Relleno Pie

  • 1 lb. hamburg
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. oregano
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 (7 oz.) cans whole green chiles
  • 1/2 lb. grated Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 lb. grated sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 c. half & half
  • 1 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

Directions

    Brown meat with peppers, onions, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper. Seed the chile peppers and spread on the bottom of a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Cover with meat mixture. Sprinkle cheeses on top. Combine eggs, cream and flour; pour on top. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes. Pour tomato sauce on top and bake additional 15 minutes. This pie is equally delicious without the beef.
