Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground round
  • 4 onions, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 can beef consomme
  • 1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes with liquid
  • 2 (1 lb.) cans pinto beans, drained
  • 2 cloves garlic or garlic powder
  • cayenne pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar

Directions

    Brown meat; add onions.

    Cook until soft.

    Add chili powder; let cook 5 minutes, then add all ingredients except vinegar. Simmer 2 to 3 hours.

    Add vinegar about 10 minutes before removing from heat.

    (I prefer to add beans about halfway through cooking.) Serves 6 to 8.
