Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (1 lb.) cans red kidney beans or pork and beans
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4 Tbsp. chili powder

Directions

    Brown meat in large pan over low heat, crumbling meat with a fork.

    Drain off fat.

    Sprinkle meat with chili powder, salt and sugar; mix well.

    Add onion, green pepper, tomato sauce, water and bay leaf.

    Cover and simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf.

    Add beans to pot.

    Thicken with a few instant potatoes. Cover and simmer another 30 minutes.
