- 2 lb. ground beef
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
- 2 (1 lb.) cans red kidney beans or pork and beans
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 1 c. water
- 1 bay leaf
- 4 Tbsp. chili powder
Directions

1Brown meat in large pan over low heat, crumbling meat with a fork.

2Drain off fat.

3Sprinkle meat with chili powder, salt and sugar; mix well.

4Add onion, green pepper, tomato sauce, water and bay leaf.

5Cover and simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally. Remove bay leaf.

6Add beans to pot.

7Thicken with a few instant potatoes. Cover and simmer another 30 minutes.
