Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground or cubed meat
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 4 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 c. (canned) strained stewed tomatoes
  • 2 c. (canned) red kidney beans
  • 4 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 tsp. each: salt, red pepper and chili powder
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 c. corn meal
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. sugar

Directions

    Saute meat and onions in butter until browned.

    Add tomatoes, beans, celery, salt and pepper.

    Simmer for 1 1/2 hours.

    Add chili powder and simmer 30 minutes more.
