- 1 lb dry red kidney beans
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 -4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 14 lb bacon, chopped
- 1 tablespoon chili powder, to taste
- salt & freshly ground black pepper
- 1 cup red wine or 1 cup chicken broth
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1 (16 ounce) can chopped tomatoes
Directions

1Soak the beans in water overnight.

2Drain and combine with the remaining ingredients in a large pot.

3Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to low.

4Simmer covered for 4 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened, adding more chicken broth if necessary.
