- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. finely chopped nuts

2Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until foamy.

3Add sugar (2 tablespoons at a time), beating well after each addition.

4Then continue beating

5to very stiff peaks.

6Fold in vanilla and nuts.

7Spoon into lightly greased 8-inch pie pan to form nest-like shell; build up sides to 1/2-inch above edge of pan.

8Bake in slow oven (300°) for 50 to 55 minutes.

9Turn off oven and let cool overnight.
