Ingredients
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 6 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 tsp. red cake coloring (optional, I don't use it)
Directions

1Sift together first 5 ingredients.

2Add shortening, milk and vanilla.

3Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes; add eggs and cake coloring.

4Beat 2 minutes more.

5Pour into 2 greased and floured pans.

6Bake in 350° oven for 30 minutes or until done.

7Use Confectioners Sugar Icing or Marshmallow Icing as desired.
