Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. red cake coloring (optional, I don't use it)

Directions

    Sift together first 5 ingredients.

    Add shortening, milk and vanilla.

    Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes; add eggs and cake coloring.

    Beat 2 minutes more.

    Pour into 2 greased and floured pans.

    Bake in 350° oven for 30 minutes or until done.

    Use Confectioners Sugar Icing or Marshmallow Icing as desired.
