Chocolate Caramel Bars

  • 1 German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 stick oleo, melted
  • 2/3 c. evaporated milk, divided
  • 1/2 c. nuts (optional)
  • 1 c. chocolate chips
  • 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels

Directions

    Melt caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk and set aside.

    Mix together the cake mix, oleo, nuts and 1/3 cup milk.

    Press half of cake mixture in a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Bake for 6 minutes at 350°.

    Remove from oven and pour caramel sauce over cake. Sprinkle with chocolate chips.

    Crumble the rest of the cake mixture on top and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool before cutting. Keeps best if refrigerated.
