Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/4 c. packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (1 c.)
  • 1/2 c. broken nuts

Directions

    Cream together the shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy.

    Thoroughly stir together the flour, salt and baking soda; stir into creamed mixture.

    Blend well.

    Stir in chocolate and nuts.

    Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheet.

    Bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cool.

    Makes 3 dozen.
