  • 34 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 12 cup sugar
  • 12 cup butter, softened
  • 12 cup shortening
  • 1 12 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 34 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate (coarsely chopped) or 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped

    Heat oven to 375.

    In large bowl, beat brown sugar, sugar, butter, and shortening until light and fluffy.

    Add vanilla and egg and blend well.

    Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off.

    Add flour, baking soda, and salt and mix well.

    Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

    Drop by tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookig sheets.

    Bake at 375 for 9 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown.

    Cool 1 minute and remove from cookie sheets.
