Ingredients
- 1/4 c. cornstarch
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 (1 oz.) sq. chocolate
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 c. milk, scalded
- 3 slightly beaten egg yolks
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 (9-inch) baked pastry shell
- 3 stiff beaten egg whites
- 6 Tbsp. sugar
Directions

1Melt chocolate in milk.

2In top of double boiler, mix cornstarch, sugar and salt.

3Gradually add milk.

4Cook until thick (about 10 minutes), stirring constantly.

5Slowly add small amount of hot mixture to egg yolks.

6Stir into remaining mixture.

7Cook about 5 minutes.

8Cool.

9Add butter and vanilla.

10Pour into cooled pie shell.

11Spread with meringue made with the egg whites and sugar.

12Brown in oven.
