- 1 c. (6 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 c. milk chocolate chips
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 3 Tbsp. milk
- 2 c. coarsely chopped pecans
Directions

1Line 8-inch square pan with buttered foil; set aside.

2Melt both chips with shortening in heavy small saucepan over very low heat, stirring constantly.

3Spoon half the chocolate mixture into prepared pan, spreading evenly over bottom and 1/4 inch up sides of pan.

4Refrigerate until firm.

5Meanwhile, combine caramels, butter and milk in heavy medium saucepan.

6Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.

7When mixture is smooth, stir in pecans.

8Cool to lukewarm.

9Spread caramel mixture evenly over chocolate in pan. Remelt remaining chocolate mixture over very low heat.

10Spread over caramel layer.

11Refrigerate until almost firm.

12Cut into squares. Store in refrigerator.
