Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 7 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 rounded Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 pt. milk
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 (9-inch) cooked pastry shell

Directions

    Mix sugar, flour, cocoa and salt in top of a double boiler. Add milk slowly and stir and cook over heat until boiling point is reached.

    Place over hot water and cook approximately 20 minutes. Add well beaten egg yolks and butter; cook for 2 minutes.

    Remove from heat and add vanilla.

    Cool and turn into cooked pastry shell.

    Spread with meringue made from egg whites and bake until meringue is brown.
