  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3 cups cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder unsweeted
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

    Heat oven to 350F (180C).

    Grease and flour 10-inch tube pan.

    In large bowl, combine sugar, 1 cup margarine, shortening and 1 teaspoon vanilla; beat until light and fluffy.

    Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.

    In medium bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, baking powder and salt.

    In small saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons cocoa, water, corn syrup and 2 tablespoons margarine.
