  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda (baking)
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla

Directions

    In a 2-quart saucepan, melt the butter, cocoa, shortening and water.

    Remove from heat; sift sugar and flour and mix.

    In small bowl, beat eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla.
  4. 4
    Mix with chocolate and bake in a well-greased and floured cake pan at 400° for 20 minutes (batter will be thin).
