Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 lb. margarine
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 pkg. dry yeast dissolved in warm water
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. candied cherries and pineapple
  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 4 to 5 c. flour to make soft dough

    Scald milk.

    Add sugar, butter and salt, cool to lukewarm.

    Add yeast mixture and 3 cups flour.

    Let rise 1 hour, then add vanilla and eggs.

    Mix fruit and raisins with 1/4 cup flour, add to dough, then add enough flour to handle (about 4 cups).

    Knead well and let rise until light.

    Put in greased loaf pans.

    Let rise until doubled.

    Bake 10 minutes at 400°.

    Reduce heat to 325° and bake about 40 minutes.

    Frost with confectioners sugar.
