Chunky Chocolate Cookie Squares

  • 2 1/2 c. unsifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. butter, softened
  • 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. Karo light or dark syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. Baker's semi-sweet chocolate

Directions

    Mix flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.

    In a large bowl, mix at medium speed the butter and sugar; beat until fluffy. Slowly beat in corn syrup, then egg and vanilla.

    Beat in flour mixture until blended.

    Stir in pecans and half of the chocolate chunks and spread evenly in ungreased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch pan.

    Sprinkle remaining chocolate on top.

    Bake in oven at 350° for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

    Cool on rack.

    Cut into squares.
