  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1 Tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. cold water
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 c. finely cut nuts
  • 1 scant c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 4 c. sifted flour

Directions

    Cook raisins in 2 cups hot water in large saucepan for 15 minutes.

    Remove from heat; add all other ingredients in same saucepan.

    Pour in a 13 x 9-inch pan and bake at 350° for 1 hour.
