Ingredients

  • 2 lb. hamburger (don't brown it first)
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 1 qt. water
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 4 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 oz. unsweetened chocolate (that's right!)
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 drops Tabasco sauce

Directions

    Combine the hamburger, onions and 1 quart water; simmer together for 30 minutes.

    Add the remaining ingredients.

    Simmer, uncovered, for 2 to 3 hours, until thickened.

    Refrigerate overnight.
